When I first joined the Chorus, I was both new in town and working out of town. This made meeting people harder and the Chorus became a lifeline to friendships. Between the people, the music, the friendships and the performances, the Chorus has been a rock where I can rely on seeing a friendly face, hearing a positive word, and learning to sing. The first night I came out to listen to a performance, my first thought was, “this group is having fun!", when I came to practices and joined, I realized that I had underestimated just how much fun and friendship there was. Whether you come for the fun and stay for the music or come for the music and stay for the fun, the choice to come is an excellent one.

The Chorus is special to me because it promotes good will and combines entertainment with community values. These values have contributed to the longevity of the organization, a rarity in todays society. Since joining the Greater Victoria Police Chorus in 1984 many changes have occurred but fond memories linger with so many members come and gone, their spirits live on.

I enjoy singing with a group of ‘regular’ people and the camaraderie is vitally important. Learning more about vocal music has been an asset. As an aside, for a boy growing up in the UK, where male voice choirs were very popular in the 40’ and 50’s, I dreamt, as a boy, that one day I would love to sing in such a choir, and almost 60 years later, it happened! I joined in 2010 and loved it ever since!

I joined this Chorus 15 years ago and haven’t ever regretted joining. The camaraderie and friendship to me has been outstanding. This group has rallied around me and seen me through some very difficult health challenges. The thing that means the most to me is hard to pinpoint but I think that because of my love for music, singing and just having fun with my friends brings everything together. If you enjoy singing and like to have fun and meet new people… come out to a rehearsal, experience the fun and camaraderie. Give us a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

About twelve years ago I came to Chorus practice as a visitor and never left. Seems like some things are meant to be!! Wednesday night practice often acts as a way of letting go the cares and concerns of the day. Learning to remember music and lyrics pushes other things to the back burner.

I joined the Chorus in 2018, with no previous choral experience. The immediate acceptance of the members of the Chorus, the welcoming acceptance of my inexperience as a chorister and the helpful tips were amazing. Our Music Director Janet Rendell is marvellous and enthusiastic and always willing to help us with a difficult part. Rehearsals are fun, concerts are exhilarating . Altogether a great experience!

Having greatly enjoyed several of their concerts, I was invited to a tryout in April 2019. I could not sit still through the practice and not join in the singing of my favorite music. Secular, religious, popular music, oldies – they sing it all and their repertoire is constantly changing and updating. The fact that I have sung little in 50 years made no difference. The Chorus have shown themselves to have great camaraderie and accommodate singers of all stripes. We are always accepting applications.
